Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a popular attraction within the South of England, that brings history to the forefront of family outings. It offers access to the HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, as well as harbour tours and various museums surrounding the history of the dockyard.
JB Associates worked with SSE Contracting to refurbish and develop existing warehousing in order to create another section to this visitor attraction. The particular warehouse is now well-known to tourists as Boathouse 4, which was originally built in 1939 in ‘response to the need for a rapid rearmament programme prior to the start of World War II’.
We helped restore and convert Boathouse 4 into a Boatbuilding Skills Training Centre, which also holds various exhibitions which tell the story of the Royal Navy and their smaller boats used through the second world war. The website for the Boathouse describes it as ‘an exciting interactive exhibition, traditional boatbuilding training and a brasserie overlooking the harbour under one roof.’
JB Associates assisted SSE on this project by providing the M&E contractor with quantity surveying services, including cost reporting, pricing variations and advising on delay notifications. SSE also hired JB Associates for the production of the O&M manual for the Boathouse 4 site.
Entry is free to Boathouse 4 and it was awarded in 2017 with a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, due to consistently great online reviews from visitors.
